Giving Back: DAtum DEsign Engineering Services Community Outreach in Kerala, India

Two visits, one shared commitment: showing up for our community

At DAtum DEsign Engineering Services (DADEES), we believe that meaningful impact isn’t limited to the engineering work we deliver — it also comes from showing up for the people around us. Over the past two weeks, our team volunteered at two very different community organizations in Kerala: an old age home caring for abandoned elders, and a children’s home supporting kids from difficult family circumstances. Both visits reminded us that care, diligence, and “doing it right the first time” apply well beyond the workplace.

Serving the Elderly at BethSaida Ashramam – Akasha Paravakal

Our team spent a day at BethSaida Ashramam – Akasha Paravakal in Kochi, Kerala, an old age home that shelters elderly individuals found abandoned on the streets, many with no family left to turn to. The visit centered on serving meals and spending time in conversation with the residents — offering companionship alongside a warm plate of food. For many of these elders, the home is now the only family they have.

Teaching Life Skills at Prakrithi Bala Bhavan

Days later, the team visited Prakrithi Bala Bhavan, a children’s home in Thrikayoor, Kerala, to run an interactive session on everyday etiquette and good habits. The children come from diverse and challenging circumstances, including single-parent households and families facing financial hardship. Through simple, hands-on lessons: polite greetings, listening, sharing, personal hygiene, and respect for elders and peers, the session aimed to build confidence and positive social habits. The children’s enthusiasm and curiosity made it as rewarding for our team as it was educational for them.

One Team, Two Communities, A Shared Purpose

Whether it’s serving a meal to someone who has no family left or teaching a child how to say “please” and “thank you,” these visits reflect the same values we bring to our engineering work: care, diligence, and doing right by the people we serve. Real impact doesn’t always require a large initiative — sometimes, sharing our time and attention is enough to make a difference.

We thank the teams at BethSaida Ashramam – Akasha Paravakal and Prakrithi Bala Bhavan for welcoming us and giving us the opportunity to be part of their journeys. At DADEES, we engineer solutions for the future, and we believe in building a better community along the way.
